Author: Cosmina Bradea

Everyone finds starting university intimidating, but doing it abroad may be even terrifying. However, your study abroad experience might be among the best of your life if you have a terrific group of friends.

You might have traveled alone or with buddies from back home. In either case, studying abroad gives you the opportunity to interact with individuals from all over the world and prepares you for an immersive trip to a new location.

Here are some suggestions to help you meet people overseas and enjoy your time at your new university!

Join a club, society, or sport

Numerous institutions provide opportunities for overseas students to participate in degree-related societies, clubs, dance groups, and sports teams. Meeting locals in this way is a lot of fun. By choosing this, you are indicating that you most likely have at least one interest with the locals, which will help you make friends easier.

Explore the local life

Participating in local culture is a great way to make new friends while studying abroad. Every place has its own culture, events, and interesting places to discover. While exploring the city, you'll undoubtedly run into new folks. Here are some things to do that you might like:

  • Attend music festivals
  • Visit the neighborhood cafes
  • Explore the city - most major cities provide free walking tours
  • Go to historical attractions
  • Visit language exchange organizations.

Volunteer

Making friends and meeting new people can both be accomplished through volunteering. Volunteering produces enduring and significant memories. Besides, you will be able to help people or pets, which is an incredible experience.

Get to know the locals

Studying abroad is a wonderful opportunity; an experience that will stay with you forever. You will make many friends - that’s almost certain. But make it your goal to befriend a local this semester and when you succeed, your adventure will be much more meaningful.

We know making friends while studying abroad is not the easiest thing to do, but if you get out of your comfort zone and start exploring your surroundings, everything will go smoother. You will notice that your network will begin to expand in no time!
