A wonderful approach to making new friends, having fun while doing your study program, and making sure you maintain a good balance between studying and your social life is to get involved in extracurricular activities like sports, hobbies, societies, volunteering, or part-time employment.

However, extracurricular activities will also help you stand out as a candidate for graduate positions by providing you with a wealth of real-world examples that you can use to highlight your skills in job applications. Employers look for applicants who are motivated outside of school, and demonstrate leadership besides their school work.

Sports

Joining a gym, sports club or team is a great way to spice up your student life. Besides, it brings numerous advantages such as achieving your exercise objectives and keeping up a healthy lifestyle. Sport and physical activity can reduce your stress significantly and set you up for a better life in general.

Hobbies

Picking up a hobby is a great way to offer your brain a new challenge: learning a new language, cooking, reading, hiking or even joining a yoga club. Generally speaking, hobbies are known to reduce stress, make you happier and more relaxed, as well as prevent burnout.

Volunteering

Volunteering keeps you in touch with people regularly and aids in the development of a strong support network. It has also been demonstrated that volunteering, whether it’s working with children, the elderly or pets, can elevate mood and ease anxiety. Besides, the feeling you get when you help someone in need is irreplaceable!

Part-time job

Taking a job besides your studies can be an efficient way to spend your time and earn some extra money. You will be able to learn new skills and build your CV with new experiences.

Extracurricular activities help improve your mental health and increase your success and focus in the classroom. They can assist you in developing professional skills and abilities that cannot be acquired in a school setting and also enable you to pursue your interests and help you grow your social network. So, don’t forget to sign up for an extracurricular activity besides your study course.
