We know making friends in a new country isn’t an easy task, but with a little bit of effort you’ll successfully manage. Be sociable with your flatmates, join different social media groups, communicate with your classmates and sign up for a group activity (yoga, gym, volunteer etc.). Don’t be afraid to step our of your comfort zone to network!
Exercising is a great way to keep in shape and alleviate homesickness. Join your local gym or sports club! Frequent exercise releases endorphins, which will make you feel happier. Besides, perhaps you’ll meet some new friends there.
Finding yourself in the unknown is frequently one of the main causes of homesickness. To help you feel more at home, it's a fantastic idea to set aside some time to tour your campus and city. Take walks, explore the area, or help the local community by volunteering. Keep in mind that your student life will go by extremely fast, and you only have a few months or years to make the most of it. Create some long-lasting memories that you’ll cherish for the rest of your life!
Although it may be tempting to use your room as your comfort bubble, spending a lot of time there will simply make you feel more homesick. The best thing you can do to overcome homesickness is to keep yourself busy. Here are some fun activities to do so: plan day trips, study in the library, get a part-time job, or even try out some extracurricular activities in an effort to keep oneself busy.
